File Setup
Information
The most common mistake in
creating 35mm slides in incorrect proportion setup. Page size must be set at
2:3 ratio (7.33"x11.00") or select the pre-defined setup called "35mm SLIDE"
when available.
Critical color matching is not
available in this service.
Keep text and artwork at least
1/2" from frame edges to avoid cut-off at the edge of the slide mount.
Size RGB raster images at 372dpi
@ 7.33x11.00 for 1:1 output. A full 35mm frame 1:1 RGB image makes a 31.9mb
file. If the image is not proportioned at slide ratio (2:3), specify a black
or white background.
Normal
Turnaround & Rush Service
We offer both 2-Day and 5-Day service for slide-to-slide duplicates. The 5-Day service allows
us to group orders together into larger runs for improved efficiency. We pass
that savings on to you. All other duplicating services for reasonable amounts
are normally 48 Hours in-lab.
We're anxious to meet rush deadlines but we can commit to a rush
schedule only after we receive complete order details. We keep pricing for rush
services as low as possible and we'll always do our best to meet your needs.
What should
I know before ordering?
Avoid Delays:
Production time increases dramatically when an order is
poorly organized or film access is difficult. We prefer to receive
slides in boxes or trays. Allow extra time and budget for
slides in vinyl pages. Large format transparencies should be in untaped sleeves,
without mats.
Provide Clean Originals: It’s the customer’s responsibility to ensure the
film has been inspected and delivered for duping in a clean condition.
Chromatics will not remove embedded debris or fingerprints. Surface
dust and lint is removed with a static-neutralizing
device, dry compressed air and a soft camel’s hair brush.
Cropping: Accurate, proportionately correct crop marks are
critical when changing film formats. Outline key points of the image on
the transparency sleeve so we’ll know if the film shifted after you
made your cropping marks.
Copyright: Legal
release of copyright is Federal law and missing copyright releases will
delay the order. Avoid delays by sending releases with the order.
Cleaning film
before duping
Surface dust and lint is removed with a static-neutralizing device, dry
compressed air and a soft camel’s hair brush. Any additional cleaning must be
discussed and arranged beforehand. Some film may require salvage cleaning, which
cannot be guaranteed, or be too damaged to duplicate satisfactorily.
Careful
handling of precious originals
We've been
trusted with original film, both raw film for processing and hero selections for
duping and printing for 26 years. Careful handling
and organization is our top priority.
Custom
lenses and Maron cameras for maximum definition
We use custom
Rodenstock M-series lenses (not general purpose enlarging lenses) on Maron
closed-loop cameras that are
optimized for the very close focusing required for slide and transparency
duplicating. This insures not only sharpness but improved highlight and shadow
detail.
Kodak's
most accurate E-Dupe film
All duplicates
are exposed on Kodak's E-Dupe film, the finest-grained, sharpest duplicating
film ever produced. Whites are clean, skin tones accurate and colors faithful.
Reproduction grade quality is standard
All dupes are
color corrected within the limits of the materials and exceed many labs
"reproduction-grade" standards for color accuracy.
What if my original is marked copyright?
If you are not the
copyright holder, avoid delays by sending a signed release along with the order. Missing copyright releases may cause
delays.
Special slide
duping services we offer:
Numbering:
Simple numbering is free but must be requested.
Imprinting with 1 or 2 lines: Two lines up to 20 characters of black text.
Text changes require reprogramming at additional cost.
Imprinting 3 to 8 Lines: Four lines
top and four lines bottom or any combination. Each line can have up to 21 characters of black text.
Text changes require reprogramming at additional cost.
Collating:
Arranging slides in order
Image Cropping: Simple
image cropping for slide-to-slide duplicating.
Insertion & Pagination:
Manually inserting slides into trays or vinyl pages.
Downloading:
Removing slide from From Vinyl Pages
Rear Screen Projection: Rear Screen Projection requires reversing slide mounts in the slide trays.
Unfortunately, Kodak's newest projectors may overheat, warp and jam colored mounts unless an optional heat absorbing glass has been installed.
(This heat absorbing glass used to be standard.) Our special white 2-sided
mounts won't overheat.
Salvage Cleaning: Washing or solvent-cleaning of
damaged or mishandled film. Cleaning is always done with care but results are
unpredictable and cannot be guaranteed. Please call for a quote based on your
needs.
Carousel Trays: We carry sell several models of Kodak slide trays.
Numbering &
imprinting options and tips
Imprinting is quickest and costs
less when using the
mounting machine’s built-in imprinter. It provides one or two lines, 20
characters each, of black text. Text changes require reprogramming at additional
cost.
For free numbering, use numerals
only. Text characters will not advance automatically and require
reprogramming for every change. For example: use 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc........
do not use 1a, 1b, 1c, 1d, 2a, 2b, 2c........
Cardboard Mounts are automatically
numbered at no charge when processing film. Numbering slide duplicates in
cardboard mounts costs extra.
Numbering
plastic mounts is free when requested
for both film processing and slide duplicating. Plastic Mounts are not
normally numbered for regular film processing because so many professional
photographers don't want numbers.
The 1-2 line imprinter (built into
the mounting machine) prints 20 characters per line on plastic mounts.
The 1-8 line imprinter (a stand-alone unit) prints 21 characters per line.
Use the © Symbol to save space in
lieu of the word “copyright.” © counts as two characters.
Allow Extra Time and budget for
orders requiring many different imprints. Programming and double checking
the imprints takes time.
Pin-Registered Mounts have less
space for imprinting because of the pin holes in the mounts. Please call to
discuss your specific needs.
Glass Mounts cannot be imprinted
but adhesive labels may suit your needs. Please request a custom quote.
